Tony-nominated Broadway star John Herrera brings his extraordinary voice and storytelling to Good Theater. Best known for his acclaimed performances in Evita, Les Misérables, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, and more, Herrera now steps into a more personal spotlight. This intimate evening celebrates the artistry of iconic singer-songwriters like Harry Chapin, James Taylor, and Billy Joel, alongside unforgettable songs from his Broadway career, including works by Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber. A rare chance to experience a theatrical legend up close through the songs that shaped his life and career.

About the Artist

John Herrera is a versatile singer and actor with over 40 years of performing onstage all over the country in plays, musicals and concert appearances. He was Tony nominated for creating the role of Neville in the original production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood on Broadway. His extensive credits in the theater include Che in Evita opposite Patti LuPone, 1776 with Brent Spiner, and the revivals of Camelot with Richard Burton, Man of La Mancha with Brian Stokes Mitchell and The Threepenny Opera with Alan Cumming and Cyndi Lauper. Off-Broadway, John created the role of Kevin in the hit musical In the Heights, Arturo Sanchez in Cactus Flower and the English language La Boheme at the Public Theater National tours include a Carbonell award winning performance as the Russian Anatoly, the  in Chess, Enjolras in Les Misérables, Che in Evita and both Roy Cohen and Louis in Angels in America. Regional theater credits: the painter Mark Rothko in Red at Orlando Shakespeare, and another Carbonell award for playing Santiago in Anna in the Tropics at Jupiter Maltz and Seattle Rep, Fredrik in A Little Night Music at both the Signature Theater in DC and the Goodspeed Opera House. John was Joseph Jefferson award nominated for his George in Sunday in the Park with George at the Goodman Theatre, Carl Magnus in A Little Night Music and another Jeff nomination for the dual roles of Alfred and Sam in Romance, Romance, at Apple Tree Theater. John Appeared in Harry Chapin: lies and legends of the Apollo theater in Chicago, also the village skate theater in New York and the Pasadena Playhouse.

His many cabaret and concert appearances include such varied venues as the Park West in Chicago, Don’t Tell Mama in and 88s in New York City among others.  John was born Juan Carlos Herrera in Havana in 1955. He and his family left Cuba in 1961 and moved to Chicago where John graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Theater and Communication Arts from Loyola University of Chicago.
